OUR MISSION IS TO HELP FAMILIES STRENGTHEN AND FOSTER THE CATHOLIC FAITH BY PUTTING GOD FIRST IN THEIR DAILY LIVES.
Family Catechesis is a form of religious education that emphasizes the role of parents as the primary educators of their children in the faith, involving the entire family in the learning process. It recognizes that faith formation begins in the home and aims to support and strengthen families in their journey of faith.
Ascension of Our Lord Church Parish uses the Family Catechesis Program for teaching religion to kindergarten through 12th graders not in a parochial school. PreK is available for any child under the Kindergarten age. When registering your child and you have child that is in the PreK range, please register them as well and select PreK under the school grade option.
Core Principles:
Parents as Primary Educators: Family catechesis acknowledges that parents are the first and most important teachers of their children in matters of faith.
Whole Family Involvement: It's not just about instructing children; it's about engaging the entire family in learning and growing together in faith.
Faith in Everyday Life: Family Catechesis seeks to integrate faith into the daily lives of families, not just during formal religious education sessions.
Goals of Family Catechesis:
Strengthening Parents' Faith: Programs include adult formation to equip parents with knowledge and resources to share their faith with their children.
Fostering Family Faith: It aims to create a faith-filled home environment where children can experience and learn about their faith.
Building Community: Family catechesis programs include opportunities for families to connect with one another, share their experiences, and support each other.
Passing on Faith: Ultimately, the goal is to help families pass on their faith to the next generation.
How it Works:
Monthly Sessions: Families attend monthly sessions together on the first Monday of the month from 5:30-7:30pm, beginning with Family Dinner, followed by breakout catechetical sessions. Families will attend once a month family Mass (First Sunday of the month).
At-Home Activities: Families are given resources and activities to continue their faith formation at home throughout the month.
Community Building Activities: There may be opportunities for social and community-building events to foster a sense of belonging and support among families.
